Polkamotion Open Best Ball Rules

This is a TEAM SCRAMBLE competition. Each team member hits a tee shot and each team MUST USE at least 2 tee shots from each team member. The best ball or the ball of choice is selected for further play. Each team member then hits a second shot (assuming no hole-in-one is carded) from where the selected tee shot came to rest. The best shot is selected for play and each team member hits his or her next shot. This continues until the ball is in the hole.

Play begins at the 1st hole (unless the course allows us a shotgun start and then each team will be assigned a starting hole).

         · Male golfers (under 60) will use the blue tees,

         · Male golfers (60 and over will use the white tees,

         · All Female golfers will use the red tees. (Unless your Nancy Lopez)

If a group only has three members, they will still get 4 shots. Each player must rotate the extra shot. For example if a team is playing a par 5, player A will take the extra tee shot, then player B must take the extra shot from the fairway, then player C will take the extra approach shot, and then player A will take the extra putt. This way a more accomplished golfer cannot take advantage of the situation by taking the extra shot all the time.

The group decides which is the most desirable ball to play. The other three players then pick up their ball and proceed to the location of the selected shot where they will each play their next golf shot. Place all balls within one club length (not closer to the hole) of the selected ball for play.

If the selected ball lies in the rough, all “next” shots must be played from the rough within one club length (not closer to the hole).

In sand traps, each ball must be played from where the original ball came to rest. Rake and place before each shot.

On the putting green, each member of the foursome must putt unless a putt is holed for that teams lowest possible score. If the first member of a team putts for a par, birdie, or bogie and they sink the putt on their first attempt the team moves on to the next tee but if that players misses the putt but is close to the hole then that player can tap-in their putt before the next golfer who’s turn is next. Then each remaining team member can attempt one (1) putt to beat the tap-in score. This will save time instead marking the ball. As soon as a putt is holed for the lowest possible score, the remaining players do not putt and the team moves on to the next tee box. Each putt must be played from where the selected ball came to rest. NO GIMMIES!!!

Hole #8: Every player MUST use only a 5 iron for all golf shots (including putting) on this hole. If you don’t have a 5 iron in your bag borrow a 5 iron from one your teammates. 5 IRON ONLY HOLE!

Hole #9 and Hole #15: Will be closest to the pin. (Only one tee shot per golfer) No TEAM MULLIGANS can be used for the tee shot on this hole.

The order in which foursome players hit can be varied according to the strategy the team wishes to employ.

If all four members of a team hit a ball out of bounds, the player who’s ball carried the furthest will drop at the best calculated point of entry and all “next” shots must be played from the drop within one club length (not closer to the hole). One stroke penalty will be assessed for the drop.

All water hazards will be treated as lateral hazards and Rule 10 will apply.

Foursome captains will turn in their scorecards upon completion of the round.

Have a great time and thank you for participating.
